Bruce C. Kone, MD Receives Professional Networking Community's Highest Honor
Bruce C. Kone, MD, Named Internal Medicine & Nephrology Professional of the Year

HOUSTON, TX, September 9, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Bruce C. Kone, Professor at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Internal Medicine & Nephrology. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.

With 30 years in the medical profession, Dr. Bruce C. Kone is a respected specialist in the treatment of kidney diseases. He brings a wealth of practical experience to the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he shares his expertise with medical students, residents and fellows as a visiting professor. Also immersed in clinical and laboratory work, he conducts medical research and strives to ensure quality patient care at the university hospital. Dr. Kone has been a significant contributor to the academe for many years, having previously served as dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine and as president and chairman of the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute.

Active in numerous professional organizations, Dr. Kone is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, the American Society of Nephrology, and the American Heart Association. He is also a member of the American Clinical and Climatological Association. He previously worked as an associate editor of Clinical and Translational Science and sat on the editorial boards of American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Kidney International, and American Journal of Medicine. Dr. Kone also served on the Florida Tobacco Education and Use Prevention Advisory Council of the Florida Department of Health and on the board of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System Physicians of Texas.

A man of many talents and an exemplary student, Dr. Kone excelled at sports and academics, the humanities and the sciences. He received his MD in 1983 from the University of Florida and his bachelor of arts in English in 1979 from Princeton University, where he captained the varsity swimming team and graduated cum laude. An emigrant from Frankfurt, Germany when he was a boy, he attended Pine Crest Preparatory School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and went on to become an All-American swimmer and an inductee into the Athletic Hall of Fame and the Arete Society. Dr. Kone attributes the success that he has enjoyed in multiple endeavors to the support that he received from his mentors.
