ATLANTA, GA, December 13, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Allan Pickens, Thoracic Surgeon for Emory Clinic, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in thoracic surgery.

While Dr. Pickens was in junior high school, he was involved with a program sponsored by the The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation which gave small-town youth medical training. Ever since this experience, he knew he was meant to be in the medical field. He has now gained 16 years of experience in thoracic oncology, spending the last three with the Emory Clinic. Specializing in minimally invasive thoracic surgery, he performs lung transplants, esophageal cancer removal and minimally invasive chest surgeries.

In 1995, Dr. Pickens earned an MD from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, followed by the completion of a general surgery residency at the University of Alabama Hospitals in 2002. He went on to complete a thoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals, and a minimally invasive thoracic surgery residency at the Cedars-Sinai hospital, both in 2004, and a general thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan Hospitals in 2005. He attributes his success to a combination of hard work and the facilities that gave him excellent training and quality instruction. To keep his knowledge of the industry fresh, he is affilated with the Society of Thoracic Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
