Mary F. Mowrey-McKee, Ph.D., was recently acknowledged as being a legend in the contact lens industry

/New York News Articles/ -- ATLANTA, GA, January 23, 2012, Dr. Mary Mowrey-McKee, President of Mary F. Mowrey-McKee Consulting, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Medical Research & Development. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

With nearly 35 years of experience in the contact lens industry, Dr. Mowrey-McKee has established her reputation as a trusted authority within her field. She recently retired after spending 19 years with CIBA Vision Corporation as a Senior Research Fellow, and in July 2011, she started her own consulting company. Today, Dr. Mowrey-McKee primarily consults on the development and manufacture of contact lenses and lens care solutions. She works to develop a new standard for disinfection efficacy in the contact lens industry, drafts standards and protocols, and participates in microbiology and toxicology research concerning contact lenses and formulations.

In addition to overseeing all aspects of her company, Dr. Mowrey-McKee continues to represent CIBA at both the American National Standards Institute and ISO. She has published 18 research papers, holds a number of patents and has given 90 presentations on a variety of topics relevant to contact lenses/lens care. She recently served on a panel of eye doctors in Seattle, Wash., and one of the moderators acknowledged her as being a legend in her field. Dr. Mowrey-McKee attributes her success to her ability to get along with others; she is able to interact with a broad spectrum of personalities.

In 1963, Dr. Mowrey-McKee earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry with a minor in mathematics from the University of Rochester. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in biophysics from the same institution in 1978. Her professional affiliations include the Contact Lens Institute, The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Chemical Society and American Society for Microbiology. Looking toward the future, Dr. Mowrey-McKee plans to continue consulting and mentoring. She also hopes to do more publishing and further improve industry standards.
